Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corporation issued the following announcement on Oct. 4.
The 3rd Annual Cabbage Festival in Pennsylvania is coming to Weatherly on October 12, 2019. The festival will run from 11 am – 6 p.m. and include family friendly activities including a tractor show, music, food, food contests, cabbage contests, games, and you guessed it… a lot of cabbage! The only Cabbage Festival in the area has been recognized by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, State Rep. Doyle Heffley, Carbon County Commissioners Wayne Nothstein, Tom Gerhard and William O’Gurek as well as Weatherly’s Mayor and Borough Council for being the first cabbage festival in the state of Pennsylvania.
This FREE event is brought to you by a group of volunteers from the borough of Weatherly along with the Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corporation. The event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors; The Borough of Weatherly, Mayor Tom Connors, Sernak Farms in Weatherly, Les Sincavage Graphic Services, Fairway Subaru, The Weatherly Hill Climb Association, Affordable Dumpsters and Zimmerman’s Dairy.
The event includes food vendors, activities for the family, kids games, music all day, cabbage related contests and more! Many of the vendors from last year will be returning this year with more food and offerings so everyone will get a delicious bite or two! Mayor Tom Connors has so many surprises up his sleeve, you don’t want to miss it!
Music will be provided by DJ John Thorpe, grandson of legendary Olympic athlete Jim Thorpe as well as the PA Villagers Polka Band.
Do you make the best halushki? Is coleslaw your specialty? There is still time to enter the contests! Anyone wishing to get involved or is looking for more information, call Alice Wanamaker at 484-274-2080 or visit www.carboncountychamber.org
